Declaration of Generative AI in Scientific Writing

Authors are required to disclose the use of generative AI in the preparation of scientific manuscripts at the time of submission. This guidance specifically pertains to the writing process and does not cover the use of AI tools for data analysis or generating research insights.

Generative AI and AI-supported technologies should only be employed during the writing stage to enhance the clarity, coherence, and language of the manuscript.

All use of such technology must be carried out under human supervision, with authors carefully reviewing and revising the output. Since AI can produce content that may appear credible but could be incorrect, incomplete, or biased, it is essential for authors to ensure the accuracy and integrity of their work. The authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for all content within their manuscript.

AI or AI-assisted technologies must not be credited as an author or co-author of the manuscript, as authorship entails specific responsibilities and contributions that only humans can fulfill.

To comply with this policy, any use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process must be disclosed in a statement included at the end of the manuscript during initial submission. This statement will be published with the article and should be placed in a distinct section before the references.

An example of the required statement:

Title of section: Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Manuscript Preparation

Example Statement: During the development of this manuscript, the author(s) utilized [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] to [SPECIFIC PURPOSE]. The author(s) thoroughly reviewed and revised the AI-generated content and accept full responsibility for the final content of the published work.

It is not necessary to disclose the use of basic tools, such as those for grammar or spell-checking, or for managing references. If no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the writing process, no statement is required.
